Last week, I wrote about the withdrawal of Amazon’s video app from some LG BluRay players, and Samsung TVs. Following a bit of extra feedback from readers, I contacted Amazon and they’ve confirmed those are the only classes of products affected in this current round.
You’ll find all the details in this month’s Breaking Fad column on The Register. Essentially, after quite a few years of looking at the evolving Smart TV scene, I’m more and more feeling that companies just shouldn’t bother.
The smart functionality is often pretty rubbish to start with, and tends to go down from there, with services withdrawn or not properly supported within a relatively short time – certainly far shorter than the typical life of a TV set. So if they’re not going to do it properly, why bother in the first place?
