I have just discovered that I cannot view Sky SPORT 1,2 through my CAM. Having contacted TUTV they have advised that SKY have restricted so that you cannot view SKY sport using a CAM and i would have to use a Thompson box, with a card slot.
When i complained that i no longer had a Thompson box ( load of crap anyway), they are sending out a free box!
I have however put the CAM into another Digital TV and it works fine, dont know how long for, so is this TV dependent?

Note that it’s the restriction on “CI+ CAMs” that is being complained about; so, if the outcome is favourable for TUTV, then it will be more or less as I suggested – you’ll be able to use a CIplus module, but basic CAMs will still be out. So, many people will still need new equipment, unless they happen to have a TV (or the Humax HDR Fox T2) that has CI+ built in.

Looks like Ofcom are investigating a complaint from TopUp TV regarding Sky restrictions on CAM’s:

Ofcom has opened an investigation to consider a complaint submitted by TUTV in relation to the terms of its contract for wholesale supply by Sky of Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2. The complaint relates to a restriction on the provision of the channels via CI+ CAMs (conditional access modules).

A quick postscript to this: according to Broadband TV News, Sky Deutschland are going to support CIplus modules, allowing people to choose their own equipment.
Of course, the German market is very different to the UK one, but it’s still an interesting developmet. Read the story at http://dlvr.it/4nfx5
